Is There An eBook In Your Future?

I wrote a post on my other blog yesterday about some eBooks I had bought in the Amazon Kindle store. I read more often on my Kindle Fire than I was reading paper books. Some of the books I have been reading are about writing and it made me think I should write a post here about some of the these eBooks for the readers of this blog. I have read these and would like to share.

Amazon Kindle Freebies: How To Publish Your Kindle Book On Amazon For Free And Make Money From Home

This is the first eBook I purchased about writing after I got my new Kindle. It opened my eyes so to speak! I went right to work on changing my eBooks over to the kindle format and uploaded them on Amazon. I have sold more eBooks than I ever dreamed possible!

Your Words, Your Story
This book is a resource for new writers, but even experienced writers will get a lot out of it.  The author, Cynthia Harrison, has written it as a memoir as well. I think you will get a lot out of this book. Especially for aspiring writers. She covers many writing topics, not only books, but including blogs and poetry. I enjoyed reading this book very much.

Kindle Cash - The Beginner's Guide to Creating, Marketing, And Publishing On The Amazon Kindle

This book gave me a lot of good information and I found it very useful. I have gone back to it over and over to study different chapters. Michael Masters, the author covers topics such as what to write your eBook about, how to research your keywords, writing your eBook, and marketing it. I mean he really covers everything you could possibly need to know.

Write Good or Die

This book is edited by Scott Nicholson, and consists of articles written by other authors. It is very good and full of information. They are the bare truth on writing and what these authors have experienced. Very interesting and good advice through out. Gives you a lot of inspiration.

How I Wrote My First Book: the story behind the story

This book is another that is written by other authors who share their stories with you. They tell about what they went through writing their first books. Anne K. Edwards and Lida E. Quillen edited this book. I found it interesting because sometimes you feel like you are a horrible writer and wasting your time........especially when you get a first bad review from someone who gives you a bad review because she is a school teacher, and thinks she is suppose to be grading a student's paper......not writing a review for a book she bought on Amazon! Sorry, that is what happened to me. It shows that writers have a lot in common and it seems they like to help each other. I like that.

And if you don't have a Kindle or other book reader, Amazon offers Free Kindle Reading Apps so anyone can read the books on their computers. I hope you will enjoy some of these books as much as I did. Really and truly, I am learning a lot about writing self-published books and my sales are doing fine on my own eBooks. If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer them if I can.

Information For eBook Writers

I have been receiving many emails from other writers wanting to write their own eBook. This is the way I did it. I presently use Open Office as my writing program on my computer and that is where I write my books. It is open source software, meaning it is free to download. Most people use Word as their writing program and that is what Kindle Direct Publishing recommended. Once it was written, I uploaded it as a PDF file to KDP. It seems to have worked. I have seen where others had problems with uploading the PDF file,  it can also be uploaded as an html document.

One thing I always do before I start something is to research. I am always researching something. In the Kindle store on Amazon, there are many books on writing your eBook and publishing it to the Kindle. Some are good and some not so much. What I do is to read a variety of these books and then use what I want from each of them.

One of the best I read was written by the founder of Smashwords, Mark Coker. He has written an instructional manual for anyone wanting to publish an eBook. This book, Smashwords Style Guide - How to Format Your Ebook (Smashwords Guides) gave me such detail in formating my eBooks. I highly recommend it. I believe it is free in the Kindle shop and on Smashwords as well. Now I did not use it on my eBooks as I didn't read it until they were already on Amazon. I will be using it on my next one!

Increase Your Income In 2012

Even in a rural area, you can develop many steams of income!

I am ready for the new year. 2012..........good things are on the horizon for me, I am sure. What about you? It has not always been easy for me since I am living with some stressful situations. I just try to deal with it the best I can, but do not allow it to penetrate my being.

When that happens, it would be very easy to fall into the way of others. Instead keep your mind open and focused. Keep thinking about your plans, your ideas, positive thoughts and plans only! That is what I do. If you allow others to affect you, then you will never get anything done or any success. Maybe instead.........your positive attitude will affect them! Something to think about?

I am working on so many different things. They are all the things I talked about previously on this blog. The many streams of income. I feel if I can concentrate on all these various streams...................I will have much success. Look at how someone who works a job, and only has that job for income...........and gives up at least 40 hours a week of their lives, for that measly bit of money. That is your life, and is that all it is worth? If you took that 40 hours a week and concentrated it on a variety of streams of income, you could very well, live your dreams!

Selling three eBooks, affiliate links on my blogs, renting space on my blogs to advertisers and selling guitar strings are all  my streams of income. They are all independent of each other. If one does well, and the others don't, I still have some money coming in. I am adding to my streams as I can. It is not a matter of having too many irons in the fire, but a matter of having more than one way to make money. Presently I am working on another homesteading book and this one should be a bestseller. What are your plans for 2012?

My Homesteading Journey Kindle Edition

Thoughts of a simpler life?

Recently I have added my eBooks to the Kindle store on Amazon. This means they had to be formatted for the kindle. I managed to do it and so far, no complaints. I am hoping it works out, as I like selling there. My book, My Homesteading Journey, of course, is written for "modern homesteaders" in mind. It is my story or journey of how my husband and I came to live here and this lifestyle.

As anyone who knows me or that is a member of the Homesteading Today forum, I have told many times before, that I did not live this lifestyle before. Growing up we always lived in the country except for the brief time that we lived in Flagler Beach, FL, where we were a mile from the beach. Other than that, we never lived in the city limits. But my parents both worked at jobs and were not into a self-sufficient lifestyle, even though both of them were raised that way.

I can't tell you how to do it...........just how I did it. It is different for everyone. But I can encourage you be self-sufficient and provide for yourself and your family. This book is the first in a series of books I am working on. I didn't put the gardening part in this one. That will be a whole other book on its own.

Our three horses!

Some topics in my book may be of interest to anyone wanting to learn how to become self-reliant in this crazy world. I don't have all the answers. But these are the things that have worked for us. As you know, we don't raise animals for food. We may get a flock of chickens in the future, but that would be the extent of raising animals.

Gardening For Food!

This is a list of some of the topics I have written about in this book:

Homesteading In The Forest
How My Solar Energy System Works
Heating And Cooling Your Home
Heating With Wood
Transportation
How We Got To This Point In Our Lives
Buying Your Homestead
1. Finding The Perfect Realtor
2. Making Your Offer
Foraging For Wild Foods
The Pantry & Root Cellar
Building The Barn
Fencing
Cutting Your Electricity Costs
The Water System
Refrigeration
Buying A Wood Cook stove
Cooking On A Wood Cook Stove
katlupe's Favorite Recipes
The Gardens
Composting
Decorating Your Homestead
To Prepare For Self Sufficiency In Times Of Emergencies

If you purchase my book for your kindle and have any questions about homesteading or any of the topics, please feel free to contact me here. I am planning another more detailed homesteading how to book that will be not so personal. More instructional. Your questions will give me a better scope on what is needed for anyone starting out. And if you purchase my book, I want to give you a big Thank You, right now! I really do appreciate it!!!

Learn To Put Your eBooks Into Kindle Formats

When everyone started talking about book readers, I wasn't interested. Of course, I like eBooks since I write them myself. But I liked reading aloud at night when the power system is shut down. At times we don't have much light depending on what time of the year it is. I would always say that I could read eBooks on my computer.......but for reading, I love holding the physical book! That has changed..............

One of my friends from Facebook got me interested in the Kindle Fire. I read all the information about it on Amazon. I started thinking I could use it at night without the need for a book light (the last one I bought hardly lasted). So I decided to save up all my Swagbucks to buy Amazon gift cards to buy one. Then, my husband surprised me.......................

with a kindle fire!

I have found many books for free on Amazon. Yes, you heard me right.....FREE! I like reading old cookbooks, historical and biographies. But I also discovered there were business books and books about money written in those old days too. They were thinking exactly like we think now!. Thoughts about how times were bad and the worse was on its way. I will post some of them here as I read them. You can download books on Amazon even without a kindle or other such reader. They have an app for you to use for reading books on your computer. Believe me, Amazon covers all the bases!

Publish Your Kindle Book On Amazon

Not only am I reading books on the kindle fire, but I read a book, Amazon Kindle Freebies by Ron Taylor,  that inspired me to format my eBooks into kindle editions. The very next day I was able to work on my book, My Homesteading Journey and put it up on Amazon in their kindle store. Then yesterday, I did the same with my Breads and More cookbook. I am so excited about this! I should be, I have three more eBooks in my computer that I have been working on. Soon I will have them up there too. If you have books just sitting in your computer, learn to format them for the kindle and put them for sale there. It is a very big market, especially with so many people getting them for gifts this year!
